Goals of Rural-UrbanMentoring The main objectives of intergenerational rural-urban mentoring are to build meaningful, positive relationships between people of different generations and backgrounds, fostering empathy, understanding, and mutual cooperation. Exchange of experiences: Adult mentors bring the wisdom of their life experience, while rural youth contribute energy, fresh ideas, and a strong command of emerging technologies. This intergenerational dialogue enriches both sides: young people gain life skills, and older adults gain new perspectives and renewed purpose. Supporting the development of rural mentees: Rural youth receive personalized guidance for their educational, professional, and personal development. The mentor serves as a role model and guide, helping the mentee explore new study paths, careers, and opportunities beyond their immediate surroundings. In these communities, mentoring can enhance academic motivation, self-esteem, and future aspirations. With the right support, it helps reduce feelings of isolation and expands the horizons of young people living in rural areas. Connecting two realities: Mentoring helps bridge the gap between rural and urban communities through mutual understanding. It serves as a social connector, breaking down stereotypes on both sides and fostering a sense of shared community. Urban mentors become more aware of the challenges and strengths of rural life, while mentees are exposed to broader networks and urban perspectives. This rural- urban connection enriches society as a whole, helping reduce the digital and territorial divide. Bidirectional knowledge transfer: Mentoring doesn’t only benefit the mentee, the relationship brings value to both. Mentors share professional knowledge, practical advice, and social skills; mentees, in turn, offer insights into rural life, local culture, and new ways of thinking. In some cases, younger mentees may even help older mentors improve their digital skills (reverse mentoring). These exchanges foster intergenerational empathy and strengthen the social fabric of both communities. 08 G a m e : ‘ C o n n e c t i o n e s t a b l i s h e d ’ C l i c k h e r e t o p l a y
