INTRODUCTION OBJECTIVE Introduction to Intergenerational Social Mentoring The topics you will work on in this module are the following: What is social mentoring? Mentors in mythology, history, and literature The importance of intergenerational learning Mentoring in rural settings: challenges and opportunities Goals of rural-urban mentoring Motivation and empowerment strategies Online mentoring methodology Define intergenerational social mentoring Recognize the value of intergenerational relationships Understand the impact of mentoring in various contexts, including rural areas Understand and explain the role of the mentor, including their responsibilities, duties, rights, and challenges Reflect critically on the motivations and expectations associated with the mentor role, identifying personal strengths and areas for growth TOPICS COVERED The main objective of this module is to understand what social mentoring is, and specifically, intergenerational social mentoring. Through the topics covered in this module, you will learn about the methodology, the reasons, and the underlying causes that make mentoring such a powerful tool for working with young people. Before we start, we would like you to answer this short questionnaire to find out your level of knowledge and/or application of the subject matter of this module. Don't worry, it's not an exam! It will serve as statistics to measure the impact of Kheiron on the target group. In this module, you will learn what intergenerational social mentoring is and why it can be life-changing for both young people and mentors, especially in rural settings. You will explore how these intergenerational bonds are built, the role of the online modality, and the strategies that help set goals, motivate, and empower the mentee to take control of their own path.
