Kheiron Module 3
Gender challenges are the structural, cultural, economic and symbolic barriers that prevent people, especially women and non-binary people, from equal access to rights, opportunities and social resources. These challenges are deeply rooted in gender roles and stereotypes, which assign different expectations and constraints depending on a person's sex or gender identity. How do these gender challenges affect us? They can manifest themselves in a variety of ways, some more severe than others: · Gender-based violence: physical, psychological, symbolic, economic, etc. · Wage and leadership gaps · Overload of domestic and unpaid care work. · Lack of representation in decision-making spaces · Less access to education, health or mobility In social mentoring, these challenges can hinder both the access of girls, women and LGTBIQ+ people to safe spaces of accompaniment, as well as the availability of diverse references that break with traditional models. In addition to these manifestations, gender challenges have a specific impact on our society, as they reproduce structural inequalities and perpetuate cycles of poverty and exclusion, impoverish the diversity of talents and perspectives in social, educational and work spaces, hinder social cohesion and equitable development, and limit the well- being of individuals and communities by restricting the freedom to be, decide and grow without gender conditioning.
