UsingAI and Gamification in Mentoring Artificial Intelligence (AI) in mentoring refers to using software that mimics human cognition, like chatbots that offer instant support, automated quizzes, or tools that suggest personalized learning paths based on mentee responses. It builds on digital competence foundations and must be used ethically to support, not replace, human mentorship. AI tools and gamification techniques can enhance online mentoring by making sessions more interactive, personalized, and fun. When used thoughtfully, they help boost mentee motivation and engagement while supporting mentors in guiding progress effectively. 09 Digital Literacy and Onl ine Mentoring Strategies Gamification involves adding game elements, such as points, badges, levels, and challenges—to mentoring activities, transforming them into engaging experiences. Drawing on educational psychology, it leans on theories like Deterding et al.’s (2011) definition of “gamefulness” in gamification design, which emphasizes how game elements can support intrinsic motivation and sustained engagement. Altogether, AI and gamification can: Personalize learning with adaptive feedback Encourage goal-setting and track progress Maintain motivation through interactive and rewarding experiences
